Long-term and Respite Care
Seniors’ residential care housing is often referred to as ‘long-term care’ (LTC). However, ‘long-term’ care refers to more than just housing, it also includes a specifically designed structure or service that has been created for a specific group of people with long-term health care needs. When it comes to growing older there may come a time when you will have to consider your long-term care options. When that time comes it is important to have the following preparation measures in place:

• A comprehensive checklist of your current medical, physical, psychosocial and financial capabilities and needs
• Accurate and current information on the long-term care options available to you
• Support in the decision-making process from those persons who are important in your life
• A personalised long-term care plan
• Designated persons and/or legal mechanisms that will make the best decisions for you should you lose the capability to make these decisions yourself

Shared Housing is an alternative housing arrangement in which people can share residences. In the Shared Housing programme you may have your own bedroom but share kitchen and bath areas with an elderly home-provider. The programme also provides companionship and security.
